Biography

Four person contemporary jazz ensemble Chelsey Green and the Green Project (Maryland) formed in October of 2009. Shortly thereafter, the ensemble was awarded the opportunity to become Artists-In-Residence at the prestigious Music Center at Strathmore for the 2010-2011 performance season. Upon completing their residency, the group has gone on to perform around the country, at the John F. Kennedy Center, BET Honors Dinner, The Howard Theatre, Blues Alley, Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, Lake Arbor Jazz Festival and more. The Green Project’s second CD debuted on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart at #22 and iTunes Jazz Chart at #7.

Bass guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Powe Jr. has founded his own production company, and in 2015 traveled abroad with Carolyn Malachi for American Music Abroad. Pianist Ignatius Perry, Jr. studied jazz piano at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD, and also performs, records, and tours with the Howard University Gospel Choir. Drummer Brian “Spyda” Wheatley performs, records, and tours with many artists in the Gospel, Jazz and R&B circuits.

“Passionate, electrifying, and innovative,” Chelsey Green fuses traditional classical violin and viola technique with popular songs and original pieces in Jazz, R&B, Pop, Soul, Funk, Alternative, and Hip Hop.

Committed to spreading the love of live music to younger generations, The Green Project works with students from all backgrounds in city and county schools to expose them to the possibilities of what music can be. They provide a wide range of educational music workshops to city and county schools, after school programs, educational groups and more.
